Whole Person Care

On September 25-27, 2006, Dr. Dan Fountain conducted a 3-day workshop on "Caring for the Whole Person" at Roberts Wesleyan College. Dr. Morehouse assisted him again this year. The course was open to pastors, counselors, students, and health professionals in our region and offered up to 21 hours of Category I CME credit for physicians who attended.

Dr. Fountain is the author of numerous books in English and French on community health, primary health care, and care for the whole person and served as a missionary physician in Kenya for 35 years before returning to the States where he currently serves as the Director of the Center for Global Health at King College.

Dr. Auty Leaving GFM

Earlier this week Dr. Auty shared the following letter with us:

Dear Bill, Billie Jo, His Branches Staff, and Board,

As you know, my husband has graduated and has been looking for a job for some time. After interviewing in and out of the Rochester area, he has received a job offer in Lexington, Kentucky. We have been seeking God for a while about this issue and His leading has been very clear throughout the process that we should accept the offer in Kentucky. What this means is that I am resigning my position and will be leaving the practice within the next 30 days.

Effective immediately I will no longer be accepting any new patients. Established patients may continue to make appointments for care up until 10/13/06, which is the last day I plan to be in the office. Other plans for transition of care are pending.

While I am grateful for God’s provision, I am sad to be leaving you and the patients. When I started here I never dreamed that I would be leaving. I am thankful for all of your prayers, your kindness, and the many ways you have demonstrated to me what it means to love and serve our Lord.

Blessings,
Clara L. Auty, MD

We will all miss Dr. Auty very much when she and Ron move to Kentucky next month and have already begun looking seriously for another provider to join our practice. If you know anyone who might be interested, please call us at 235-2250.

BT Visiting

In mid-September, BT will be back home for several weeks to report on her work among the Lebanese refugees in northern Israel. We're looking forward to seeing her again and hearing her perspective about the effect of the recent war on the community she serves. If you would like to talk with BT while she's here, please contact us. In the meantime, be sure to read her most recent newsletter.

Arnett Block Association

Kids just love
"Happy" the Clown (our own Dick Stutzman)

The Block Association has been very busy this summer raising community spirit, developing our community "pocket park" known officially as the "Arnett Bird & Butterfly Garden" on the corner of Arnett Blvd. and Wellington Avenue, and helping Jessica with her Community Survey (see below).

ABA also hosted the neighborhood's first Block Party in years. It seemed like the whole neighborhood showed up! We had mounted police, a big fire truck, balloons, face painting, Happy the clown, gospel singing and live rap music, a Punch & Judy puppet show, and lots of fun, food, and fellowship in the sun! For a slide show of pictures from the Block Party, click here.

Earlier in the week His Branches hosted a youth group from Pennsylvania who dedicated an entire week of their summer vacation to urban youth ministry. They helped us get our grounds in good shape, hosted a kids' Vacation Bible Study in our back yard, and did a lot of neighborhood outreach. And when Saturday arrived, they were able to stay long enough to help us set up for the Block Party and greet the first guests before heading back home. Thanks
to all who helped!
